Jonas Alex Morales Saute is a Medical Doctor with specialization in Neurology and Medical Genetics. He obtained his MD and PhD degree at UFRGS, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He is a professor at the Department of Internal Medicine at UFRGS, attending at the Medical Genetics and Neurology services of Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA). He is the head of the Graduate Program in Medicine: Medical Sciences (PPGCM) at UFRGS and the coordinator of the Genomic Medicine Project at HCPA. His main research interests are the study of hereditary spastic paraplegias including cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) and the field of genetics of neuromuscular disorders, including muscular dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and hereditary neuropathies. He is the principal investigator of the coordination site in Brazil for trials with advanced therapies for SMA and trials for CTX. Jonas has over 100 full articles in peer-reviewed journals.
